T o make matters worse, most acai juice is reconstituted from acai concentrate back into a liquid thereby destroying much of the inherent beneficial nature of the fruit due to the pasteurization and manufacturing processes the ingredients go through. Often flavors and preservatives are added to allow the product to keep from spoiling for indefinite periods once opened. Actual milligrams of active ingredient -- the anthocyanins -- in a whole bottle of acai "health" juice may be far less than what the average person would consume by eating 20 blueberries or blackberries per day.
Manufacturers that supply freeze-dried powder concentrate are able to maintain the integrity of the original acai berry fruit. Freeze-drying ensures the manufacturing process does not interfere with the beneficial properties of the acai. It also side-steps the destructive pasteurization process needed for liquids to ensure they keep for long periods. It makes sense to use a product which is freeze-dried as it is light and easy to ship yet retains its beneficial properties.
This is why we at Natural Home Cures do not recommend buying any acai which comes in the liquid form. Instead, look for a supplier that sells acai in powder or capsule form as it takes 12 or more bottles of acai liquid to equal one 30-capsule bottle of acai powder in terms of the active in active ingredient -- anthocyanins.
